Moving

I think I'm going to start posting on Blogger. I like it better. Not that I post much anyway.

Send me a holla! (to the 3 people that read my blog, one of whom happens to be my wife) =)

Saddleback

This weekend we were in LA for Christian's 100 day celebration which went ok. On Sunday we got a chance to visit Rick Warren’s church Saddleback. Let me just say it was very impressive. From the moment we turned on to Saddleback Way (yes they have their own street) our jaws just dropped. Parking was crazy, it was like attending a football game. Their first service was just letting out and hundreds of cars were leaving the church.

The church campus was massive, almost the size of a small college. We dropped Christian off in their state of the art nursery. It was actually the first time we ever left him with strangers (I felt very unsettled about the whole thing). Their main sanctuary wasn’t as nice and massive as I though it was going to be, but it was still better than anything else I’ve seen.

Their praise was amazing (full orchestra), one of their praise leaders was on American Idol and they also have a member Sabrina Sloan on Idol right now. At the end of the message Rick Warren told the congregation to vote for her. The message was great, but I think I was a little let down because I had too many expectations from hearing him speak on CD. But don’t get me wrong he was still a very powerful and awesome speaker. Mary and I were very challenged, we were even talking about his message as we were driving back.

Mary was saying that she wished she could go to Saddleback, and I was actually pretty shocked that she said that. Because I would never want to go to a mega church like that. I think I would feel like a number and I want to go to a church where I’m needed, and Saddleback sure as heck doesn’t need me. It did inspire me to dream big for our church. I wouldn’t like to attend an already existing mega church, but I wouldn’t mind growing a small church into one. C’mon RBC let’s dream big! Anyways it was an awesome experience and Mary and I are planning to go back everytime we are in the area.

Hi, I'm your new neighbor

Driving to LA tonight to celebrate Christian's 100 day with Mary's family. I hate that drive. Before we go, we are going to knock on the doors of some of our future neighbors and talk to them about the neighborhood. As Mary and I were driving to work (I drive her to work now, aren’t I good husband?) she said something pretty funny. She said that she definitely wants to go with me to talk to the neighbors, because if I go by myself I will probably scare them. Hahaha! Am I that scary? If I came and knocked on your door in the middle of the night would you invite me in? Yeah I guess it’s better if Mary goes with me. It would be funny though if I went around and introduced myself with my wifebeater on. Our property value would probably go down.

Happy Valentine's day

This kid that I talk to sometimes in the gym came into my office today and gave everybody in my office a valentine. Inside was a Bible verse 1 John 4:9,19 “This is how God showed his love for us: He sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. First we were loved, now we love. He loved us first. ” I told him that I was a born again Christian too and that this was a really cool thing that he was doing. He was like, "That’s awesome man!" I forget how it feels to be a zealous college student who goes around sharing the gospel to all who care to listen. I’ve gotten so jaded and indifferent since I left college.

Creepy

So I was rifling through Berkland’s or Gracepoint’s new website and it was so surreal seeing the old Berkland faces doing the same Berkland things, in the same Berkland poses, in the same Berkland uniforms. I do have to give them a lot of credit for their great organizational/administrative skills.

Anna Nicole Smith

Anna Nicole Smith just died. I'm not a fan or anything but given her older son's recent drug overdose, and the birth of her new son, it's all very weird and tragic.

Not so super Superbowl

So the Superbowl yesterday was a let down for me. Actually it’s kind of a let down every year. I think the anticipation for the Superbowl is actually better than the actual watching of the Superbowl. Also it really matters who you watch the Superbowl with. The crowd I was with yesterday were like the worst people ever to watch a Superbowl with. Three of them fell asleep, and I think four or five of them went to play Mario Kart on the Nintendo 64 in another room. NINTENDO 64!!!! There was no beer since it was a church event and what’s a Superbowl without beer really? Better no Superbowl at all I say! But I am glad that Peyton Manning won one though. I would have hated to see him go down the road of Dan Marino.
